SEERs
If your current air conditioner is more than 10 years old, it could be operating as low as a 6.00 SEER. Compare the cooling costs of a 6.00 SEER System operating at an average annual cost $1000 compared to an American Standard system with an 18.00 SEER rating operating at a cost of $333 annually. That would be an annual savings of 67%.

Thermostats
Residential Air recommends that you set your thermostat to 68 degrees or below for heating and 78 degrees or above for cooling. It can cost you 4% more in energy costs for every degree you set your thermostat beyond the recommended setting.

Cooling Fans
Turn off bathroom and kitchen fans when no longer required; they are pulling the heat or coolness from the house.

Filters
Clean or replace your air filter regularly. The number one thing you can do to increase the life and efficiency of your air conditioning and heating system is to clean or replace your filter.

Maintenance
Maintain your air conditioning system with the same respect as you would your automobile. Your air conditioning unit travels an average of 50,000 miles every summer in running time. Preventive maintenance is cost effective. Early diagnosis of worn parts or improperly operating controls can eliminate a costly and untimely emergency call.
